Blood Services


For more than 50 years, the American Red Cross has been committed to providing a safe and available blood supply to help meet America's blood needs.  This work is accomplished through the organization's national network composed of 7 divisions and 36 Blood Services regions.

Fast Facts

  • The American Red Cross collects approximately 6.5 million units of blood from 4 million volunteer blood donors yearly.  The Hoosier Hills Chapter collects approximately 2,750 pints of blood per year on average. 

  • Blood products are used to treat accident victims, cancer patients, surgical candidates, children with blood disorders and other illnesses.

  • The American Red Cross is the Nation's largest supplier of blood giving approximately 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers 9.5 million blood products each year.
