For more than 50 years, the American Red Cross has
been committed to providing a safe and available blood supply to help
meet America's blood needs. This work is accomplished through the
organization's national network composed of 7 divisions and 36 Blood
Services regions.

The American Red Cross collects approximately 6.5
million units of blood from 4 million volunteer blood donors yearly.
The Hoosier Hills Chapter collects approximately 2,750 pints of
blood per year on average.

Blood products are used to treat accident victims,
cancer patients, surgical candidates, children with blood disorders
and other illnesses.

The American Red Cross is the Nation's largest
supplier of blood giving approximately 3,000 hospitals and
transfusion centers 9.5 million blood products each year.

If you are 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good
general health, you may be eligible to give blood. If you are 16 years
old with parental permission, you may be eligible to donate blood. For more information
